Like many others, I was very sorry to hear last night of the death of Sir Simon Milton, Deputy Mayor and Mayor Boris Johnson’s Chief of Staff. Any death at 49 is premature and a tragedy for those close to the person concerned. However, everyone involved in London Government will know what a loss to the capital Simon’s death will be.
I knew him first as Leader of Westminster City Council and then as Chair of the Local Government Association, before he joined the Mayor’s team at City Hall. He brought an effectiveness and professionalism to everything he did. Those qualities will be missed not only by the Mayor’s administration but by London as a whole.
